The worst part about calling in sick for an opening shift is that I'd really like to try sleeping (as I've been trying most of the night) but I have to stay up until someone actually gets into the store.

So, Dixie wants to stay home tomorrow night to watch the American Idol finale. Cos she's like that. I, meanwhile, have the evening off and have decided that Adam will win, and I don't really give a shit. Sean's probably in the same boat with me (giving-a-shit-wise, not Adam-winning-wise, cos I think he truly does not give a shit).
That means Sean and I will play records at the Riverhorse tomorrow, 6-10pm. I have purchased many, many new things since the last time I played records in a bar that was not the Highbury. And they are all good! I will play them for you.
ADDENDUM: Dixie says she may show up, then leave early. Either way is fine, I says. Maybe we'll put the Idol on the television at the bar. Cos nobody really needs to hear it, right? All we need is visual evidence.

Found this on IMDB today...
Martial-arts master Chuck Norris has his sights set on becoming more than a Texas Ranger - he has volunteered to run as the U.S. state's first president.
Norris, who played TV hardman Cordell Walker in hit series Walker, Texas Ranger, has put himself up for the job of running the region after discussing the possibility of the state seceding from U.S. control during a rant on CNN.com's political blog.
The actor, who is a staunch Republican, insists Texans want an independent state after being let down by the American government - and thinks he'd be the ideal candidate to lead the Lone Star state's revolution.
He says, "I may run for president of Texas. That need may be a reality sooner than we think. If not me, someone someday may again be running for president of the Lone Star state, if the state of the union continues to turn into the enemy of the state.
"Anyone who has been around Texas for any length of time knows exactly what we'd do if the going got rough in America."

| Humanity never ceases to dismay me. |
[30 Mar 2009|11:54pm] |
A customer asked me for a book today, for her daughter (who was right there with her.) I looked it up, told her we might have it, and went over to look. Didn't find it. This is not uncommon. When the computer says we have one copy of a book in stock, the following possibilities come up: 1) it's on the shelf. There ya go. 2) it's on hold for somebody. 3) somebody took it and put it on another of a thousand shelves in the store. 4) the computer is wrong.
There are other occasional options, such as "It's in back cos we haven't had a chance to shelve it yet," et cetera. Then this happened:
Me: We can order it for you if you'd like. Customer: Can you send it to our house? Me: Sure, there's a $3.99 shipping fee. Customer: It's not our fault the book wasn't here.
No, I didn't respond "It's not our fault you came in when the book was gone" or "It's not our fault you don't live near a bookstore." Because I want to keep my job. I think I just said something like "Well, that's the way it is."
But the more I think about it, the more I'm shocked that this woman said such a thing. Does her amazing, towering sense of entitlement really reach that high? It's just alien to me. I'm not capable of thinking like that.
She didn't order the book. Probably decided to order it from Amazon, who'll charge her shipping, anyway.
